Katherine Allen-Coleman

Katherine Allen-Coleman

The afternoon artist is Katherine Allen-Coleman!!!

Kathrine Allen-Coleman was born in Victoria B.C. Canada. Her studies began with an Associate of Arts diploma from Camosun College. Continuing her education she studied at the Victoria College of Art, Metchosin International Summer School for the Arts, and the University of Victoria. Her studies took her to the South of France where she met fellow artist R. Scott Coleman. Kathrine and Scott were married in Scott’s hometown of Jackson Georgia in 1998.

Kathrine began working on her “dress painting” series almost 20 years ago. They have evolved over time to the large multiple canvas pieces that they are today. They are narrative pieces, focusing on the challenges of simply growing up, and finding one’s place in the world. They begin with a vintage dress that seems to have a story to tell. Acrylic paint, printmaking, photography, and stitching all make their way into these works.

Working out of her studio in Jackson, Georgia, Kathrine exhibits throughout the Southeast. She has won numerous awards, both in Canada and the U.S.

Larry Fielder

Larry Fielder

The Artist of The Morning is Larry Fielder!!!

For over 35 years, artist Larry Fielder has been creating award winning sculptural objects. After receiving his degree in Architecture from the University of Texas/Austin, he began designing and fabricating architectural stained glass. Later, he became known for his large glass and steel sculptures which grace many homes in America and internationally. He then began making cast glass objects, and worked with many famous artists to realize their vision in cast glass, while still creating his own sculpture.

Currently, he makes wood vases and wall pieces. Larry is known for his impeccable craftsmanship and attention to detail and the relevance of his work for contemporary interiors.

Larry’s process begins with laminating layers of wood to achieve the desired thickness. The vase profile is then cut, the shape is carved, and the surface is textured. Larry uses chisels, chainsaw, sandblasting, and pneumatic tools to create the textured surfaces. Finally , each piece is finished with stain or paint and colored wax, alternating with sanding and buffing to yield a complex visual appearance. When making mixed media pieces, Larry will incorporate metal, glass or stone to the piece.

Jed Schlegel

Jed Schlegel

The artist of the afternoon is Jed Schlegel!!

Jed is a self directed studio artist and has been addicted to clay for more than twenty years.

He works with stoneware and porcelain, fired to cone 10 in a gas reduction atmosphere. Most of his work is wheel thrown and then altered. Attention to form and an emphasis on craftsmanship are the foundational elements and the driving force of what Jed does.

His inspiration is often derived from nature of the very process of working with clay. The marks left on he surface from the hand or tools, the twist imparted by the wheel, or the way the flame works its way through the kiln touching each piece differently. Each of these things can solidify his current direction or inspire a new tangent.
