Great News on the Funding Front!

Cultural Festivals is receiving a grant of $20,000 from PNC Arts Alive, a two-year, $1 million grant initiative from The PNC Foundation. This Prestigious grant award will fund Walking on Art, a chalk drawing challenge.

PNC Arts Alive funds innovative arts programming that engages audiences in new ways. To be selected for this prestigious grant award is a real honor, placing us in an elite group of bold thinkers with the common goal of increasing arts access and engagement in new and innovative ways.

For the second year in a row, the Saint Louis Art Fair is opening up its jurying process to the public. Artists and community members alike are invited to join Cultural Festivals staff, Saint Louis Art Fair jurors, and other Art Fair supporters on Friday, April 8, 2011, as we share the first round of 2011 Art Fair jurying. This event serves as a great opportunity to learn more about St. Louis’ award-winning Art Fair and see artists’ works projected just as our jurors. For community members, prospective artists, and Emerging Artists alike, the open jury experience will provide you with great insight toward the creative works and strategies that make the Fair so strong.

The Open Jury Process will be preceded by a Preview Party on Thursday, April 7 from 6:00pm-8:00pm at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Clayton, MO. Please join us and mingle with fellow artists, staff, and Saint Louis Art Fair supporters.

With the Saint Louis Art Fair’s Emerging Artists as Entrepreneurs Program, we value opportunities that allow young and emerging artists within the Saint Louis and surrounding communities to grow and flourish as professional, independent artists. With this, we find great excitement that one of the 2011 2nd-Year Emerging Artists, Lilli Kayes, will be showcasing work in the upcoming Varsity Art XV show. Varsity Art is an annual exhibition hosted by Art Saint Louis that allows two outstanding art students from local university and college art programs to collaboratively curate their work.

This year’s Varsity Art show will be held Friday, March 11-31 in the main gallery of Art Saint Louis with an opening reception March 11, 6-8pm. Please support this event and the emerging artists within our St. Louis community.

CF To Say Farewell to IT/Social Media Coordinator

This Friday brings a new beginning to the Cultural Festivals office as we bid farewell to IT and Social Media Coordinator, Bruce Schwerdt.

Many know Bruce for his work and coordination of the Art Fair’s restaurant row, Pleasures of the Palate, but since starting as an intern in 2009, Bruce’s contributions to the Cultural Festivals team and office have been far and wide. Upon becoming IT and Social Media Coordinator in 2010, Bruce has seen the Cultural Festivals and Saint Louis Art Fair presence skyrocket threefold, while his work with redeveloping the newly launched Cultural Festivals and Art Fair websites have garnered much attention and praise.

Effective immediately, Bruce will continue his journey in the events industry as a Group Tour Planner with Sunrise Tours, a family-based agency based in the Benton Park area of St. Louis, MO. However, upon his new beginnings, Bruce remarks that he has thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the Cultural Festivals team, expressing much joy in his part to help bring the 2010 Art Fair into fruition.

DEADLINE APPROACHING | 2011 Saint Louis Art Fair Exhibitor Application

Don’t miss your opportunity to showcase your work in one of America’s Top Art Fairs!

The March 15 deadline to apply for the 2011 Saint Louis Art Fair is quickly approaching. Start and complete your application before the time is up by visiting our ZAPPLICATION.

The Saint Louis Art Fair is a nationally juried fine art and fine craft show and is held in the streets of Clayton, Missouri, one of the nation’s most affluent and prestigious business and residential communities. The Art Fair is consistently ranked one of the nation’s top fine art fairs. Each year the Saint Louis Art Fair attracts over 150,000 art enthusiasts.

When applying to the show please keep this in mind:

Over the last two years it has been brought to our attention by the jurors that the work they see during the jury process does not always reflect what they see on-site at the festival.
In the application we ask that you list a price range for you work. Some applicants (not all) list a wide price range, for example $25 – $5000. If the 4-jury images and the booth image only reflect the higher priced items but you plan to bring work that reflects your lower price range we asked that you properly show that work in either 1 of your 4 images or in your booth image.
This will help alleviate questions about what was actually juried in the show and set the stage for what the jurors can expect to see at the festival.
In regards to the booth image, if you don’t have a current outdoor booth image and have to submit an indoor image, please provide a description explaining details of your outdoor booth set-up. If your indoor and outdoor booth set-up are the same (with the exception of a canopy tent) then simply state that in the description. We want to see what your booth will look like onsite at the Saint Louis Art Fair (not structure but presentation).

Saint Louis Art Fair Ranks as One of the Top 10 in the Nation!

In November, Cultural Festivals was selected by American Style Magazine to compete in its annual Top 10 Fairs and Festivals. We solicited our audience’s vote to show our community and nation the value that the Saint Louis Art Fair brings to our city. Later in the month, American Style Magazine announced that the Art Fair had been selected as one of the Top 10, but shared that it would not disclose any official rankings until its Spring 2011 magazine issue.

Well, the results are in!

In its newly released Spring issue, American Style has ranked the Saint Louis Art Fair as the number 04 Top Fair in the nation. As a newcomer to its annual list, this is a big feat, and it could not have happened without the wealth of support from the St. Louis community. As featured in American Style’s online “Fairest of Them All” article, one supporter, St. Louis resident Elsa Greenblatt, shares, “It’s one of the most fun and creative events the city offers—it brings the community together.”

With such support and enthusiasm behind the Art Fair entering the new year, the Cultural Festivals team is pumped to bring even greater artistic excellence and excitement to the St. Louis community with the 2011 Saint Louis Art Fair. Please join us September 9-11, 2011 in Downtown Clayton for this year’s event.

February Emerging Artists Workshop: Copyrights & Contracts

The Saint Louis Art Fair will continue its Emerging Artists as Entrepreneurs program this month with a workshop on copyrighting and contracts. In collaboration with St. Louis’ Volunteer Lawyer and Accountants for the Arts, artists and emerging artists receive the opportunity to define ownership in their work and learn first-hand the give-and-takes of the Saint Louis Art Fair contract.

Presented by Wells Fargo Advisors, the Emerging Artists as Entrepreneurs workshop series is open to all artists free of charge. To RSVP for Tuesday’s workshop or sign up to be a 1st year participant in our program, please email dnichols@culturalfestivals.com.

Public Art Collection Exhibit in Florissant Valley

A day after its 2011 preview party, the Saint Louis Art Fair’s Public Art Collection has been shipped and set up for its first community exhibition of the year. Resting in the library of its Florissant Valley campus, the collection will show at St. Louis Community College through March 31st.
